DED Announces Appointment of Dawn Busick as Director of Division of Workforce Development

JEFFERSON CITY - Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) director Greg Steinhoff has announced the appointment of Dawn Busick as director of the Missouri Division of Workforce Development (DWD). Her appointment is effective Jan.1.

Busick had been acting as interim director, since DWD’s former head, Rod Nunn, was appointed as Gov. Matt Blunt’s director of Education and Workforce Innovation last October. Previously, Busick had been the division’s assistant director since 2005.

”Over these past two years, Dawn has successfully demonstrated her strong workforce development background and solid leadership skills,” Steinhoff said. “The DWD leadership over the past few years as well as the hard work of many workforce professionals throughout the system has placed Missouri at the top of the list for innovative strategies in the workforce development community. I am confident she will continue to advance the state’s workforce system.”

Prior to her work with Missouri’s workforce system, Busick served more than 24 years in Illinois government, serving three Illinois governors in various executive level roles. She has a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Illinois at Springfield; is a certified workforce development professional; a certified grant writer; and an alumnus of the senior executives in state and local government program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. Busick is the mother of two adult sons, both whom attend college.

“We’ve hit the ground running to keep progress moving forward on our current initiatives, as well as those in the development and implementation phases,” Busick said. “I want to strongly emphasize our commitment to keep Missouri a national example of excellence. Our efforts to assist Missourians in improving their quality of life will continue and intensify.”
